The February 10th board meeting has been changed from Winter Park to Tallahassee. This was a unanimous decision at the November Board meeting to hold our board meetings in different locations around the state. Given the rising gas prices, it makes sense to hold the board meetings in north, central, south and at Annual Meeting locations each year to alleviate hardships for our board members. Tallahassee was chosen for the February meeting, because the PAST Chapter will be distributing FAM materials there. The poster looks fantastic and will be accompanied by postcards this year. FAM Committee Chair Andrea White will be writing to you soon with more specific directions to the meeting at the Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR). She also will provide information about a special tour of the facility and give some suggestions about lodging for your consideration. The new address of the BAR is:
B. Calvin Jones Center for Archaeology at the Governor Martin House
1001 de Soto Park Drive
Tallahassee , FL 32301
(Located off Lafayette Street between Seminole Drive and Myers Park Drive )

South Arkansas University (SAU), Magnolia, Arkansas was the repository for Native-American artifacts known as the Cedar Grove Caddo Native-American Collection (CGCNAC). The United States Army Corp of Engineers found the collection some years ago and therefore, the collection is deemed to be property of the United States Government until repatriation of the items to the Caddo Native-Americans. Repatriation of the items were going to be consummated in the near future.
Between May 2006 and August 3, 2006, the CGCNAC were purloined from SAU Archeology Department storage facility. The value of the missing items (i. e., pottery) is estimated to be between $100,000.00 to priceless.
Photographs with respective descriptor numbers of each individual pottery item accompany this communication. Please report any positive information regarding the whereabouts of the missing items to the nearest office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) referencing the following case number: 52C-LR-43801.

The grant application deadline for FAM 2008 is fast approaching. Again, FAS is asking you again for help in acquiring letters of support for this grant. Letters from state legislators have a lot of weight in the committee's consideration of grants. However, all letters are important and the more the better. Please try not to use "form" letters as the committee also notices duplication, so paraphrase if you are following another letter as an example.
Address the letter to:
Fred Gaske, Director, Division of Historical Resources
c/o Bureau of Historic Preservation, Grants and Education Section
R.A. Gray Building
500 S Bronough Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399
Please send the letters to Sheila Stewart or give them to her before December 5. Thanks in advance for your help in supporting Florida Archaeology Month!
